One of the best things about pole buildings is that they come in many different shapes in sizes — but that can also make things difficult if you’re constructing your new pole building for a specific purpose.
We’ve mentioned before that, although there’s no “standard size” for a pole building, there are common sizes for common uses.
We’ll walk you through some of the most common pole building sizes and give you insider tips to consider when planning the perfect size for your new building.
What Size Pole Building Do I Need for a Two Car Garage?
If you’re building a pole building to use as an ordinary two-car garage, we recommend a size of 24x24x12 or 24x32x12.
This difference depends on whether you’d prefer some extra space in your garage, or if you’d simply like to snugly (but comfortably) fit two cars inside.
What Size Pole Building Do I Need for RV Storage?
Unsurprisingly, if you’re planning to store an RV in your pole building, it will need to be larger that an ordinary garage — we recommend a size of 30x50x16, 36x48x16, or 40x50x16.
One of the most important things to remember when building an RV storage building is that the overhead door needs to be at least 14’ tall, so the eave height needs to measure at least 16’ to accommodate the door.
What Size Pole Building Do I Need for a Toy Box?
A pole building is the perfect place to keep your favorite toys tucked away. Whether you’re waiting for the right season or the perfect weather, a pole building keeps your snowmobiles, UTVs, ATVs, and everything in between safe from the elements when they’re not in use.
For this type of storage building, we generally recommend a size of 30x40x14 or 30x48x14. Of course, this can change depending on the specific size and quantity of the items you’re hoping to store.
What Size Pole Building Do I Need for a Horse Barn?
The size you choose for your horse barn really comes down to preference. You’ll have to consider things like the number of stalls you plan to build, and whether you want to include additional rooms for tack, feed, equipment, or other storage.
To help put these considerations in perspective, the average horse stall is 12×12. That said, most horses (particularly larger ones) are more comfortable in 14×14 stalls. If you plan to build a horse barn with stalls on both sides, you will likely want to include a 12’ aisle between them.
While these are just jumping off points, they may be helpful as you begin to think about the size of your new horse barn.
How Can I Choose The Right Pole Building Size?
As you can see, there are plenty of common pole building sizes to choose from depending on how you plan to use your pole building, but there’s also plenty of room for customization.
The first step in choosing the right size for your pole building is to decide how you plan to use it. From there, you should talk with an experienced team.
At Beehive Buildings, we always want customers to get the best possible value from their buildings. Because of that, we don’t usually suggest building smaller than 20 x 30 — it’s simply not cost effective.
That said, we’re willing to work with you to find a size that fits your property and your intended use perfectly. Although there are common sizes we can use as references, we can always adjust our plans if you’d prefer a larger or smaller pole building.
If you have a vision for a new pole building and you’re ready to get started on talking specifics, get in touch with the Beehive Buildings team today!
