Building Permit Application
Farmington City’s building permit process is in-depth and can be difficult to navigate for someone who hasn’t already gone through the process. Therefore, Beehive Buildings charges a Building Permit Service Fee of $3,500 for jobs in Farmington to take care of the permit process for you.
Building Permit Service
Beehive Buildings will apply for your building permit and will pay all bonds and fees, with the exception of the final building permit fee, which will be your responsibility.
Excavation Observation Report
Farmington City requires an Excavation Observation Report to be completed after we have dug your footings. We contract with GSH Geotechnical to do this report. In order to complete this report, GSH Geotechnical must have access to the original Geotech Survey done on your property (which is typically done by the developer of your subdivision).
Beehive Buildings will check with Farmington City and GSH Geotechnical to see if either has your property’s Geotech Survey Report on file. If we are not able to obtain the original survey, we’ll need to contract with GSH to get a Geotech Survey done and the fee will be your responsibility. The average price for a Geotechnical Survey is between $4,500 and $6,000.
If you would like us to check on access to your Geotechnical Survey Report before signing your building contract, please let us know and we’ll be happy to do so.
Farmington City Building Restrictions
In general, Farmington City doesn’t allow buildings taller than 25’ in the rear yard or 15’ in a side yard. The city also restricts how much of your yard (rear or side) can be covered by accessory structures.
We recommend calling the Farmington City Planning Department (801-939-9214) to make sure the size of building you want can be built on your property. If you need any clarification or have any questions after contacting the Planning Department, we are more than happy to help.
